You do not need a car for a beach day. From the apartments it is a short walk down through the village to the sand: towel, sandals and off you go.
Many of our guests swim early, while the sea is still flat and quiet, then come back to the traditional Greek breakfast we deliver to each apartment every morning.
Kamari is one of the longest beaches on Santorini. The shore is dark volcanic sand mixed with small pebbles, and the water deepens fairly quickly, so it suits proper swimming.
Most of the beach is organised, with sunbeds and umbrellas run by the beach bars. If you prefer more space, walk a little away from the centre. The Blue Flag is an international award for clean water, safety and environmental management.
Wear sandals or water shoes: dark sand and pebbles heat up quickly in the afternoon sun.
Come early or late. Mornings are calm; late afternoons are softer and cooler.
Check the wind. In July and August the meltemi usually blows from the north. The east coast is more sheltered than the north of the island, but the sea can still be choppy on windy days.
A long stone-paved promenade runs behind the beach, lined with cafés, tavernas, cocktail bars and small shops. Most of it is free of cars, which makes it one of the nicest evening walks on the island.
Just behind the promenade, Cine Kamari is an open-air cinema in a garden that shows films on summer evenings. Bring a sweater for later in the night.
The rocky mountain at the southern end of the beach is Mesa Vouno. On its summit are the ruins of Ancient Thera, the island's ancient city. You can drive up the winding road or walk up the old cobbled path; see our guide to the hike.
In season, a small water taxi runs around the headland between Kamari and Perissa, the black-sand beach on the other side. It is an easy half day at a different beach without driving. Ask us for the current timetable.

Yes. The water is clear, the beach has held the Blue Flag, and the sea deepens quickly.
About 200 m, a three-minute walk.
Fira is about 7 km away. Public buses connect Kamari and Fira, and a taxi takes around 15 minutes.
